The majority of people, when asked to visualize a family, they think of a mother, a father and any children they might have together. This has been the concept of a family for thousands of years and that�s how most people expect it to stay. But, for more than fifteen years now, state courts have been battling the possibility of gay marriage. Can people suddenly start visualizing two men or two women together as a couple, forming a healthy family? Just recently, on May 15, 2008 the state of California has made the decision to allow full marriage rights for homosexuals. Second to the state of Massachusetts where homosexuals are only allowed to marry under the circumstances they both reside in the state. But why is homosexual marriage so controversial that only 5 states out of the 50 are allowed to unite them in civil marriage? To my knowledge, the main reason is religious beliefs.
