The Theory of Planned Behaviour was developed by Ajzen in 1985 and derived from the theory of reasoned action developed by Icek Ajzen and Martin Fishbein in 1975; it is a theory about linking attitude and behaviour. �The word attitude is derived from the Latin aptus, meaning fit and ready for action. This ancient meaning refers to something that is directly observable, such as a boxer in a boxing ring. However today, attitude researchers view �attitude� as a construct that, although not directly observable, precedes behaviour and guides or choices and decisions. It suggests that predicting behaviour from an attitude is improved if people believe that they have control over that behaviour� (Hogg & Vaughn, p150 & p162).
