In the years long before the Common Era, God and Abraham formed a covenant marking the beginning of Judaism, the first monotheistic religion. Living by the words of the Talmud, Jews have committed their lives in obeying God�s commandments. Judaism has evolved, not only as a predominant religion, but also as a cultural way of life. The Jews have survived persecution, genocide, and being exiled, yet they are the eleventh largest religion with over 14 million followers. Originating around 1300 B.C., in the area known as Mesopotamia, the Jews were a nomadic group of people that were repeatedly dispersed and oppressed. (To Be A Jew, 1972) The suffering of the Jews has continued throughout history, and even still occurs today. However, they remain a stronghold in their faith and maintain belief in God�s will. The Jewish people will never forget the tribulations that they have faced.
