One of the definitions for profiling is �a formal summary or analysis or data, often in the form of a graph or table, representing distinctive features or characteristics.� Racism is defined as relating to or based on race. The significance is when we put the two words together to produce what is well known in law enforcement as �racial profiling�. In today�s society, racial profiling is better known as biased-based policing. Dempsey and Forst (2007) infer that �racial profiling, [is] the term commonly used for bias-based policing, is generally defined as any police-initiated activity that relies on a person�s race or ethnic background rather than on a behavior as a basis for identifying that individual as being involved in a criminal activity� (P. 212).
