In the story �Through the Tunnel� by Doris Lessing, the writer conveys the two main themes of a youth growing up to independence and finding an identity. The theme of growing up to independence is conveyed by Jerry�s choice of going to the �wild bay� instead of the �safe beach� with his mother.
