It is often claimed that the things women do to make themselves physically attractive, including the clothes or shoes they wear, their personal grooming habits, and so on, are unimportant, at best, these things actually serve to boost women�s self-esteem and confidence. Sandra Bartky views this as problematic because it has now become a requirement, by the public, that a woman must submit herself to the appropriate body discipline or she will face the refusal of male support. For women this may mean the loss of badly needed intimacy, or the refusal of a decent living. In fact the things women do in this respect put an extreme amount of stress upon themselves. I will explain three reasons why Bartky thinks feminists should worry about how women present themselves. I will then explain why I agree with Bartky�s argument. Then I will provide my own argument and follow it up with two reasons to back my claim. Finally, I will summarize what I have written and discuss the overall points.
