Contrary to popular belief, it�s sad to say that racism is alive and well. Over 400 years ago the term was first introduced to American history. With it came the distorted meaning that many have come to accept today. The �n� word rests at the center of racial controversy, but has ancestry that many may not know or acknowledge. According to Pianke Nubiyang, author of The Original Meaning of the �N� Word, this word was actually derived from the word �N-g-r�, which was used by the ancient Egyptians to mean �God.� However, today it is rare to come across a word with a more tainted, disrespectful meaning. Originally, I felt that this word only had the power that we as a society gave it. I distinctly remember times where I would talk about the subject with friends of different backgrounds.
