A True Test of Character How can one be so sure to think that he or she has a good character? Flawless character is not only the ability to stand up for what one believes in but also being true to ones ethics and standards. In the short stories “A Good Man is Hard to Find” and “Where are you going, Where have you been” both Connie and the grandmother are used as prime examples to delineate a dearth of assured character. In this patriarchal society, let alone in these stories, women are not only stereotyped as being passive to men's requests, but are also viewed as not having a fundamental place in our society. Connie and the Grandmother’s feeble characters help reinforce the notion that they are a blatant misrepresentation of how women should be portrayed.
