Norway: The Vikings and Norse Paganism Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Vikings, though brutal were an intelligent and resourceful group. They made the first boats, created sturdy buildings, and had a strong religion. Many say the Vikings were only barbaric, and their name, meaning 'pirates', supports that. Even so, the Vikings will always be one of the stronger original civilizations. The Vikings (originally Vikingrs) originated in Norway, Scandinavia, and Iceland. Leif Ericsson was the first to discover America, and other countries nearby. The Vikings traveled by foot, too; not only boats, though they are often depicted with them. These famed boats were called longboats, and generally had many oars along their sides. The Vikings did pillage other villages, but that was just how they lived. The religion most of Norway and the Vikings believed in is now called Norse Mythology. It is a pagan religion, consisting of many gods such as Odin, Thor, Loki, Frigg, Tyr, Frey, Freya, Od, Morpheus and many others.
