Piaget-Learning through Stages Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Piaget – Learning Through Stages Piaget believed that people go through developmental stages in their life. This is somewhat like a ladder as each stage must be attained before one can step up the ladder and go on to the next stage. People must act on their environment at each stage so bits of knowledge can form schemes to interlock bits of knowledge together. This in turn will allow one to perform meaningful actions. These schemes will change formed mental structures. Once these mental structures are changed a person can thrust into the next developmental stage. Piaget discusses four stages. The first stage is the sensorimotor stage that lasts from infant to two years old. This is the stage where a child builds concepts of reality and how it works through his/her environment. At this stage a child does not know that objects remain in reality even when they are out of sight. The second stage is the preoperational stage and lasts from two to six years old. At this stage children recognize that objects have properties and they do exist in reality when out of sight. How......
