On September 11th 2001, two hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center buildings in New York City. The attacks were quickly tied to a terrorist group known as Al Qaeda, located in the Middle East. Soon after, President Bush declared war, and U.S. troops were sent to Iraq. U.S. soldiers took over the Abu Ghraib prison, located just outside of Baghdad, using it to hold Iraqi detainees. Unfortunately for the detainees, the soldiers assigned to this prison chose to use it as a place to torture and abuse the prisoners. News of the abuse soon reached higher authorities, and the soldiers in question were rightly punished. This kind of military misconduct isn�t new to warfare, but that doesn�t make it acceptable, and the case of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal is no exception. The Abu Ghraib prison was built in the 1960�s by British contractors, and from its beginning was a place of torture and death. It was about the size of a small town, covering 280 acres.
