Alyssa Brugman’s, “Walking Naked” is a tragedy and is a contemporary written novel that deals with teenage issues. Megan Tuw, the mean and small minded protagonist, and her friends see Perdita Wiguiggan as being different and, in conclusion don’t like her. Perdita doesn’t conform to the stereotypical high school girl and as a result, is called ‘The Freak’ by her other classmates. As the story unravels, Megan finds that Perdita, intellectually has a high IQ and as weird and abnormal as she is, has a unique personality. She wants to be observed as a girl who has no social standing, yet she does not intend on being noticed by her school community.
Being different, doesn’t always obtain a positive outcome. For Perdita Wiguiggan, this is a sufficient conclusion to make. To Megan, popularity is what makes her feel secure in the school community, with her friends Candice Perkins, Dara Drinkwater, Katie Gattrell, Megan Handenham and Jessica Chou.
