The charges include racketeering conspiracy, weapons offenses, narcotics distribution, obstruction of justice and perjury” (Corrections Forum, 2006). In today’s society there are a lot of misconceptions about crime. People think that only lower class people commit crimes. This article is to show that crime can occur in any class of people. Crime and scandal in civilians runs rampant throughout the United States. Our prison population is overrun with criminals. According to the American Correctional Association (2002), 6.7 million people were on probation, in jail or prison, or on parole at year-end 2002. Our prisons are getting so overpopulated that our court system has to give lighter sentences or let people out on parole. According to Cronkite (2004), prisons are giving violent felons an early release because of the overcrowding due to the five to ten year sentences given to minor drug charges.
