The Effects on a Person with Autism Autism is one of the many ASDs (Autism Spectrum Disorders). The effects on a person with autism are lifelong, though some symptoms decrease in time from therapy, diet, and medication. Autism causes a person suffering from this disorder to be slower in some areas such as the way they communicate and interact with others. It also causes unusual behaviors, interests, and ways of learning, paying attention, and reacting to different sensations (�Autism Spectrum� 1). Gifted to severely challenged is the range of a person�s thinking and learning abilities with autism. �ASDs include autistic disorder, pervasive developmental disorder, and Asperger syndrome. These conditions all have some of the same symptoms, but they differ in terms of when the symptoms start, how severe they are, and the exact nature of the symptoms� (�Autism Spectrum� 1).
