Spreading the fun with Offensive Mascots Offensive material will always affect someone. Such items as a mascot can offend an entire group of people. In Ward Churchill�s article �Let�s Spread the Fun Around: An Issue of Sports Team Names and Mascots� he writes about certain team names that are offending American Indians even though that is not their purpose. Churchill also expresses that because these organizations say it is all in good fun and are meant to honor the American Indians, that other teams should have names that depict other races and cultures. This article is very well written to appeal to the reader�s emotion and logic. To somebody who is neutral to this argument, reading these slanderous terms toward races, maybe even their own, could pull them to Churchill�s side of the argument. Personally, I disagree with the article. Though Churchill does make a good point with people saying some of the teams that have these names are honoring American Indians and maybe the names should be spread around; he uses words that are derogatory and slanderous.
