By last week, I had finished reading the American masterpiece by F.Scott Fitzgerald—The Great Gatsby. Greatly impressed by its downright pragmatic structures and plots, I couldn’t help pondering over its significant implied reflection of American society at the beginning of the twentieth century. F.Scott Fitzgerald, whose full name was “Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald”, is widely regarded as one of the twentieth century's greatest writers. He lived after the shock and chaos of World War I, when American society enjoyed unprecedented levels of prosperity during the "roaring" 1920s as the economy soared. Fitzgerald represented an important era in the history of American literature. He depicted skillfully in most of his works the evocation of the Jazz Age, a term he coined himself. He had experienced the superficial flourishing "roaring" 1920s, but meanwhile worried about its short life. He revealed this kind of ambivalent feeling in most of his novels, among which The Great Gatsby was one of the most typical.
