Forrest Gump �Forrest Gump� is more than just a movie directed by Robert Zemeckis; it expresses a cultural plethora of events occurring in the United States during the disorder of the 1960�s and 1970�s. The sense of realism throughout the movie allows individuals to achieve a better understanding of what really occurred in the nation during that time and the emotions that were involved. The movie portrays a nation progressing toward freedom with many diverse angles including war, civil rights movements, and poverty. Forrest Gump is a man who is a symbol of a young nation undergoing the difficulty of rapid, and often unwanted, change. Gump did not have an ordinary childhood. Due to poverty, his mother had to rent out rooms throughout their home to pay the bills. Gump also had an IQ of 75 and braces on his legs from having a crooked spine.
