Aspects of South Africa Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Aspects of South Africa Colonial History- IN 1652, Dutch traders landed on the southern most tip of the massive continent of Africa. The location of their landing allowed for the foundation of Cape Town, which is located on the Cape of Good Hope in the South Atlantic Ocean. These traders established the town as a stopover point between trading in the Netherlands and the East. The British soon came in and took over the area and forced the Dutch to disperse into the neighboring republics. Precious metals and minerals were discovered in this area in the late 1800’s such as Diamonds and Gold. This discovery greatly influenced immigration to the area. It also spurred wealth for the colonialists and caused a large separation between them and the native people. The Dutch traders who became known as Boers attempted to resist British settlement and infrastructure but failed in their efforts during the Boer War (1899-1902). The Boers and British ruled together under the Union of South Africa. This Union was made up of four British Colonies; Cape Colony, Natal, Transvaal, and Orange Free Sta......
