The Native American, also known as the American Indian, was the original inhabitants of the American land as we know it today. Prior to the influx of European explores and many other immigrant groups, the American Indian consisted of hundreds of different tribes and cultures throughout the America�s. Today there are about three hundred reservations and a country wide population of approximately 2.5 million. The United States government does recognize over five hundred fifty Native American tribal governments. The Native American is a considered a �minority� group and even today face the hardships of various stereotypes and discrimination from society and government. The troubles of the American Indians started just after their discovery by outside cultures in 1492 after the arrival Christopher Columbus. Once the America�s were discovered many immigrants groups began to migrate and settle the newly discovered lands. The largest of issues in this point in time was the issue of land ownership.
