The Threat at Home. Domestic Terrorism has many definitions depending upon the source to which you refer. For purposes of this paper, we will use the definition proffered by the F.B.I. in 2002. They state, �Domestic terrorism refers to activities that involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any state; appear to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; to influence the policy of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and occur within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States.� (White, p. 4) There have been many events in the history of our country which would fall into that definition. The assassinations of Presidents Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley and Kennedy, the bombings by the Weather Underground in the 1960�s and 70�s, the Oklahoma City bombing, the two attacks on the World Trade Center (1993 and 2001) as well as the attack on the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 are all examples of domestic terrorism.
