It�s a magnificent story that can be undoubtedly termed as a master piece which was three times short listed for Booker Prize. Mistry belongs to the class of those writers whose aim is to give voice to the sufferings and miseries of the poor and helpless segment of the society. �A Fine Balance� presents the lives of this uncared and vulnerable segment of the Indian society, whose lives are caught in the vicious cycle of poverty. Mistry concluded his novel on an intriguing note that no matter how much this class struggles it never succeeds in breaking the very shackles of poverty instead it is further suppressed and driven into extreme survival struggle by the corrupt and cruel system. India is a democratic and secular country but India of �A Fine Balance� is neither democratic nor secular in any sense. Infact its tyranny of democracy......
