Andrew Jackson and the Election of 1828 Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In 1824, Andrew Jackson, John Quincy Adams, William Crawford and Henry Clay all were running for President. They all had traits that made them good candidates, for example, Andrew Jackson, a general at the time, was considered a hero after he won the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812. John Q Adams was the son of the second president, John Adams and was a great debater. William Crawford was secretary of the Treasury when James Monroe was president and was being supported by Van Vuren, whom was a political influence from New York. Jackson had won the popular vote but still needed to have the majority in the Electoral College in order to become president. Even when it was predicted the Jackson would get the last two votes he needed to become president, it didn’t happen that way. John Quincy Adams was the new president in 1824, which made him the sixth president of the United States. Adams had won due to Clay giving him his vote, which gave Adams the necessary electoral votes to win.
