The Vietnam War, also known as the American War in Vietnam, was a result of nationalist forces trying to unite the country of Vietnam under a communist government and United States� and South Vietnam�s attempt to prevent the spread of communism. Of all the wars in American history the Vietnam War in particular has been such a subject of confusion and controversy, partly due to obtaining the status of never �officially� being declared a war and having no actual beginning or end. During this war both countries suffered massive losses and the war is still considered to be one of America�s greatest military failures. Since the end of the war a considerable number of things have changed in both countries. By reviewing the history of Vietnam, the cause and conflicts of the war, and America�s involvement in the war, the effects of the war on America and Vietnam are still evident today.
