Have you ever wondered what prison life was like? K. C. Carceral�s book �Behind a Convict�s Eyes� was written by a man who was convicted with life in prison. He writes about how he and his fellow inmates adapt to prison life and the pleasant and unpleasant incidents that had happened to them. He describes prison life as a subculture that has its own society, language, and system. Basically, this book describes life in prison from the point of view of an inmate. In this paper, to the best of my knowledge, I will attempt to discuss the following: has my understanding of prison life changed or not since reading the book, describing adaptation strategies used by �Anonymous N. Inmate� and other inmates, an inmate�s need for respect, hope and safety, my own suggestions for correctional policy changes, and if I agree with Carceral�s theory of why people become criminals.
