I live, with my husband, my two sons and my brother-in-law, in a house built by Habitat for Humanity in Peoria, Illinois. My husband and I both have jobs, working 40 hours a week and we both do �side jobs� to bring in extra money. I do therapeutic massage in my home and he does mechanical work. We have a wonderful home, located in an area with 16 or 20 other Habitat homes. One-third of the homeowners are white and there are no Hispanics or Asians buying a Habitat home in our neighborhood. My house is on a cul-de-sac, backed by several acres of woods, but it sits behind a federally subsidized housing project, therefore, the neighborhood is pre-dominantly black and anything but private and peaceful. White families are out-numbered 15 to 1 and more than just skin color comes into play in the differences and inter-actions between white and black. Because of my current environment, I�ve been asking myself, �Is it racist to lump almost an entire race of people into a category that labels them as belligerent, non-productive, irresponsible, lazy and otherwise not fit to live......
