Sunscreen was invented to protect skin from disease and cancer. In the late 1960s, the first sunscreen appeared on the market. The sun is healthy for all living things, but overexposure of the sun is one of the biggest causes of skin disease. Suntan lotion prevents not only skin cancer, but also premature aging. The ultraviolet-B light is the cause of most skin cancers. Also, people should put suntan lotion on, not only in the summer, but also in the winter, says Jeanine Downie, the author of the book, Beautiful Skin of Color. The sun reflects off the flat white surface of the snow and can cause serve sunburns. According to the online encyclopedia, �Sources vary as to who invented the first sunscreen, but most acknowledgements go to Milton Blake.� He created an unsuccessful sunburn cream in the early 1930s. Another chemist, Eugene Schueller, tried the experiment again and succeeded because he used slightly different ingredients then Blake.
