D-Day: Storming Normandy Beach Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The invasion of France on June 6, 1944 was a mixture of key deception, masterful planning, and sheer fighting force and power. The Allied High Command formed a genius plan to invade and liberate France and establish a foothold in mainland Europe. D-Day was a key turning point in the European Theatre for the Allies. The invasion planted thousands of combined American and British soldiers firmly on European soil and started the Allied offensive. These soldiers then helped to sandwich the Nazi Wehrmacht, or war machine, back into Germany between the advancing Americans and British in the West as well as the Soviets from the East and ultimately to push them to their surrender eleven months after D-Day. However, this invasion was only successful through a long and careful process. Through careful training, well-crafted planning and deception, the Allies staged the greatest amphibious landing in world history to turn the tide in World War II.
