Christmas Carol: The Supernatural Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Almost everyone goes through times when they change for the better or the worse. There are those who experience traumatic events that either depresses them or makes them angry. Even more so, there are those who learn from those situations and change for the best. Either way it goes life changing situations forces everything to change unwillingly. In literature, most characters that go through life altering situations change in ways that helps them grow to become a better person. A popular example of a character like that, Ebenezer Scrooge, relives parts in his life that remind him that it is not too late to change who he has become. In A Christmas Carol, Dickens uses the supernatural to dramatize the need for Ebenezer Scrooge to change from miser to socially responsible citizen. Scrooge's attitude towards others on Christmas Eve begins to establish this idea. Despite the fact that Christmas Eve is the time for cheer and family, Fred's mention of Christmas causes Scrooge to become "'cross'" (Dickens 34).
