As a year 12 student i wish to debunk the insulting but increasingly common notion that were aren't discerning enough to decide who is dangerous in cyberspace and who isnt. This misconception is evident in the fact that more and more schools are filtering or even blocking our access and encouraging our parents to do the same at home. For years now the focus in education has been to make us critical learners, self-sufficeint learners. No longer are we 'empty vessels' to be filled with knowledge by the all-knowing teacher. Teachers and students now play different roles, with teachers facilitating our learning and students learning how to learn rather tahn absorbing reams of often eminently forgettable content. We are provided early on with the tools of critical literacy to apply to the information coming our way. In short, we are taught not to believe everything we read, hear or see before scrutinising the evidence and considering all the angles. This apparently, is the best-practice taeching endorsed by most modern education systems. Why then, when the proverbial 'moment of trut......
