The Greeks were one the most important societies in history due to their influences on the future and their importance to us today. However, it is also significant to know that they were preceded by the Minoans and Mycenaeans. Another interesting thing to think about is how different history would have been if the Persians had defeated Greece. The Minoans are traditionally mentioned when early Greek civilization is discussed, but it is unproven whether or not they are the earliest Greeks since they have no written literature. The Mycenaeans, who later took over the Minoans, were similar in nature except they did have an Indo-European language which allows them to be called the first Greeks. Both cultures benefitted immensely due to their location by the Mediterranean which not only gave them good agriculture but also excellent ports for international trade. Amongst these similarities are also differences.
