Many of today�s managers ask the question, �Am I a manager, or am I a leader?� Some managers do not realize that there is a distinct difference. Others search to determine what it means to be a leader. The rapid environmental changes have altered the face of management, causing managers to continuously look for better ways of managing their teams and incorporating the art of leadership. Various new management concepts and theories have emerged due to business growth, diversity in the workplace, advancement in technology and globalization. All of these concepts help to define the business environment. To be an effective manager, both management and leadership skills must be used interchangeably. First let us begin with an American Heritage Dictionary (2000) definition of a manager and a leader.
