Honors Bio. Enzyme Reactions in Hydrogen Peroxide and Potatoes Question: How does concentration of potatoes affect the amount of oxygen produced with hydrogen peroxide and potatoes (enzymes)? Hypothesis: I predict that when the amount of surface area of the potatoes increases then the amount of oxygen produced will rise causing the pressure to increase. Since enzymes increase the speed of a reaction by breaking up substrates to make the initial energy smaller. Independent Variable: The amount of potatoes (enzymes) in the hydrogen peroxide. Dependant Variable: The amount of pressure (created by enzymes breaking up hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen). Constants: The test tubes (medium size), the amount of hydrogen peroxide (5ml), the pipette, the test tube holder, the pressure sensor, and the time in which the pressure is recorded (200 Sec.) Materials: 9 medium test tubes, potato cubes of three different masses (.24-.26 g, .66-.68 g, and 1.1-1.14 g) and three of each mass, 50 mL of hydrogen peroxide, 1 small beaker in which to put the hydrogen peroxide, 1 test tube h......
