Reform Movements Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

This country was founded on the notion of individual freedoms and that the rights given to us were “God given” rights. However these ideals were extended only to the property owning white males; excluding Indians, slaves, and to a lesser extent, women. Reform movements in the United States sought to improve the American experience by focusing on changing society so that they could improve morale deficiencies often based on very narrow and broad visions of morality. Others thought that it was better and even safer to not reform as much in society and that some reform movements were negative towards society. There were many reform movements in this country; an example of one was the issue of putting Juvenile Delinquents in prison and trialing or treating them the same as adults. In writing for the Reformation of Delinquents a writer stated that it was wrong to just throw a minor in jail and forget about the person. They believed that it was necessary to teach the delinquent a real lesson to change their life, and also they should be trialed separately from adult criminals and put int......
