Doctors Fight with his Pride and Masculinity in Hemingway: “The Doctor and the Doctor’s Wife” Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Hemingway’s short story, “The Doctor and the Doctor’s Wife” explores a confrontation between two men and a conversation with one of the men’s wife after it. This caused the two to get into a verbal fight in which Doc went home extremely irritated and proceeds to have a conversation with his wife at home. Hemingway reveals to the reader that the Doctors pride and masculinity had been challenged and hurt though the Doctor’s actions and conversation with his wife. Dick Boulton had a profound comment towards the Doctor. “’Well, Doc,’ he said, ‘that’s a nice lot of timber you’ve stolen.’”(24) Hemingway followed this by explaining that the logs were mostly left behind and became rotted and useless, which both Doc and Dick knew. The Doctor is aware that they technically do belong to a logging company, and occasionally the companies do come down to retrieve the newly lost log......
