The Doniphan and Mormons in Missouri During the 1800s people living in America at that time only had one focus on their minds, the American dream. The American dream is that dream of land in which life would be better, richer, and fuller for everyone with opportunity for each according to the ability or achievement. One of those Americans was known as Alexander W. Doniphan. In the 1820s and through 1830s there was no other state that exemplified that American dream for young striving people except Missouri. Missouri was a productive, new, full of land, full of opportunities, and set the standard that would allow others to achieve their desired goals. Alexander Doniphan wanted nothing more that to experience something new that would take him and his career as a lawyer to new heights. As a result of him moving westward to Missouri, he encountered a religious group that would take him to the height of his career. This religious group was known as the Mormons, they too moved westward to seek out the American dream, which would allow them to worship freely and obtain the land they need......
