Of mice and men Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

I had chosen to read Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, because I had recognized it instantly as a classic. This is a fictional story, and it is very tragic and got me a bit emotional. It has a somewhat comical yet moralistic tone to it. Of Mice and Men seems boring at first, but then the story gets the reader extremely absorbed into it. This story is about two men who stick together like best friends. The book takes place around the time of the Great Depression, which was in the 1920’s-30’s, in California. Some of the book takes place in the woods by the river, but most of it takes place on the ranch and in the bunkhouses. George and Lennie are the main characters of the book. Lennie is large and has a shapeless face. He has a tremendous amount of strength, but because of his mental disability, he can’t realize what he’s capable of doing with that strength. Lennie loves to pet and stroke anything that is soft. He dreams to live on a farm with George and tend to many rabbits. His enthusiasm about these things proves his innocence.
