The Enlightenment was a very progressive time in which great advances were made for society at a time when the people were often oppressed by monarchy rulers. Since the beginning of the Enlightenment period in the 17th century, America has been at the forefront of the Enlightenment movement. The Enlightenment flourished in colonial America due to the lack of tradition and conservatism in the newly founded colony. Although they cannot agree on one thing that ended the Enlightenment, many scholars agree that the Enlightenment ended in the early 1800�s. However, I believe that the Enlightenment project is still a running work in progress in the contemporary United States. The ideas and influences of the Enlightenment have a lasting legacy that can still be seen working in the United States today. The Enlightenment was started by wealthy Parisian philosophers in the 17th century. Aided by the concurrent Scientific Revolution, the Enlightenment spread across Europe.
