Henry Ford was born in Greenfield, Michigan on July 30, 1863. His beginnings were humble, he was the son of a farmer. Ford dropped out of school at 15 to help with the family farm, but that didn�t mean he liked doing farm work. In 1879 he moved to Detroit to become an apprentice in a machine shop. Ford had a great work ethic, he worked meticulously to earn money but still barely scraped by because of such low wages. He often would spend long nights repairing clocks and watches for extra money. After living this rough and tumble lifestyle for some time, he moved back to Greenfield where his father gave him 40 acres of land so that he could have his own farm to live on. But unfortunately, Ford spent most of his time on the farm equipment, trying to improve it and make the work easier, than actually tending to the farm. After this trial run, Ford ended up returning to Detroit where he worked as an engineer for the Edison Illuminating Company.
