The religion spread through the Buddha and his close followers telling stories and preaching his views on others. This religion is most influential in the area of East Asia, and south Asia. There are between 230 and 500 followers worldwide, in millions. This religion is monotheistic. It was founded by Siddhartha Gautama, around the year 450 b.c.e. The Holy Books are called the Three Jewels, the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. Religious leadership is not organized, each individual lives a life of purity and are self governing. The basic beliefs of this religion are the teachings of Karma, purity leads to nirvana and ultimately to being one with the higher being. The sects of the religion that have evolved over time are that certain branches, Vajrayana, have been influenced by Hinduism. .
