Robert Frost Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Robert Frost once pointed out that " half of what we are is where we live and the other is what we talk about." As a New England poet, Frost's roots were firmly planted in New Hampshire . However, people throughout America and the world have found significance in Frost's poetry because he writes about mankind. "Birches" is also relevant and worthy of consideration because it can be read simply as a nature poem or as a poem that reflects on man's existence. Despite the poem's apparent simplicity, it contains deeper meanings which challenge us to search beneath the surface to discover Frost's hidden wisdom. He develops the poem's level of meaning in stages: the poet observes the bent birches, reflects how the ice storms made them that way, and describes how a boy swings in the birches; and finally, reveals the symbolism and theme that the poet himself would like to swing in the birches to escape life's problems.
