Summary of "The 21st Century Public Company Audit" Over the last seventy-five years, regulators have introduced legislation, regulations, and authoritative guidance for public company audits. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 has triggered new responsibilities for corporate governors, produced a new regulatory agency in the PCAOB, and has set new standards that place emphasis in the audit of internal controls. In the monograph, the authors provide a conceptual discussion of how audit objectives have evolved in response to changing business conditions and societal accountabilities, and how auditors have and likely will adapt their methods to achieve these evolving objectives. The authors present the concept of evidentiary triangulation as a way to facilitate attainment of audit objectives. Central to the concept of evidentiary triangulation, is the view that a public company's financial reporting process begins with selected entity business states, EBS, that are transformed by management information intermediaries, MII, into management business representations, MBR.
