In 1964, the Civil Rights Act and other antidiscrimination laws eliminated most of the obvious discriminatory practices in the workplaces of America; however, there has been a strong resistance to the enforcement of these laws. Discriminatory employment practices are becoming more understated and more complicated to identify. Because of this, American workplaces still practice unlawful discrimination. The Civil Rights Act was enacted to do away with patterns of discrimination against prospective employees because of their religion, sex, race, or national origin. In 1967, congress barred discrimination on the basis of age and in 1990, discrimination because of disability was barred. Affirmative Action and the American's with Disabilities Act were enforced to combat discriminatory practices within American workplaces.
