Each year elementary school students' time is wasted while teachers are helping other, less fortunate children. Since the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 came into effect, children in the United States are no longer grouped into classes according to their academic capabilities. Is this new law actually helping children, or is it in effect to appease society and the parents of children that are not academically at the top of their classes? Throughout elementary school my peers and I were given standardized tests at the end of each school year to evaluate our basic skills for the grade in which we were completing. Depending upon our scores on the exam, we would then be placed in the appropriate academic level of our grade in school. Although, I am very aware that some children do not perform as well on standardized tests as others, but with grade point averages throughout the year also being taken into account, there was no margin for error in this system. After all, when you continue to see the same students in your classes year in and year out they most definitely must be similarly......
