Michael Longley is an Irish poet from Northern Ireland. As a poet Longley would at first seem to be in an almost Dr. Jackal and Mr. Hyde scenario. He writes his poems in two different personas. One is used for the tranquil poems such as �^~Carrigskeewaun�^TM. In these poems there is peace a great contrast to the other side of Longley, in which he writes about war and death. The feelings I first got when read Longley�^TMs poems were that of horror and disgust. Over the plain manner he talks about such things as war and the Northern troubles and the brutal images used in his poetry. In the poem �^~Wreaths�^TM an example of such brutality, is evident when the Civil Servant is killed, �^~a bullet entered his mouth and pierced his skull�^TM. After further readings I found that the poems don�^TMt glorify war in the way that W.B Yeats does, but only presents it. Longley simply shows his readers the truth behind the dead bodies. I also found that his poetry wasn�^TMt all �^~doom ......
