Huntington's disease is a progressive neurological disease that causes a variety of crippling physical and psychological conditions. It is a genetic disease, and will cause a defective gene to be repeated during protein synthesis, which will cause the amino acid glutamine to be repeated in the protein product of the gene. For unknown reasons, this defective protein cause neural degeneration. This degeneration will lead to uncontrolled movements and problems emotionally (Fox, 68). Signs and Symptoms of the disease or condition Some early symptoms of HD are mood swings, trouble driving, depression, remembering a fact or even making a decision. As the disease progresses, concentration on intellectual tasks becomes increasingly difficult and the patient may have difficulty feeding himself or herself and swallowing. Also as the disease progresses it attacks your short term memory. Eventually the patient will be unable to take care of them self (HDSA).
