Civilization, as we know it, began around five thousand years ago in and around the areas that we now know as Egypt and modern-day Iraq. It was not just happenstance that these civilizations came to be; "it was an act of human creativity." In studying these first civilizations, we find that there are certain characteristics that are needed for them to grow and flourish: agriculture, a writing system, government, a system of belief or myth and many other things. If we had the chance to recreate civilization from the beginning with people of only ten different professions and their families, knowing what we know now, I would propose that these ten professions would be essential to its success. The most important career, by far, would be that of the farmer. Agriculture (food) is the major need of any civilization. For it to even form one would need some kind of stable food source in one place. A farmer would bring the knowledge of what to farm, when to farm it, how to farm it and especially how to properly store food surpluses. A farmer may ......
