Culture is a complex and often contested and ambiguous word to define, as Raymond Williams puts it "culture is one of the two or three most complicated words in the english language."1 It has many debatable meanings due to the fact that it is not constant and is always changing being subject to the time and place that is relevant. Although one attempt to understand the meaning of culture is to see it as part of everyday life, similarly Williams defines culture as "ordinary."2 In other words culture is representative of dominant norms and values with in a society. More over, in contrast Gelder states that "subcultures are groups of people that are in some way represented as non-normative and or marginal through their particular interests and practices, through what they are, what they do and where they do it."3 Further the Chicago school focuses on youth subcultures as a result of lower class inequalities and frustrations causing deviancy from norms as a solution to these social problems.4 Where as the Birmingham school focused on working class struggles as a result of adapting to pos......
