As author Christopher Paolini progresses through his fantasy epic trio, the air of his tales change from a dark and sinister feel to a much more light and heroic tone. The darkest book within his trio is the first book, Eragon. It contains the most heartbreak, danger, and battle. Paolini's second book, Eldest, has a very balanced tone having its fair share of sadness and uplifting moments. Brisngr, the third book, is the brighter and heroic book in Paolini's epic. The following is an in depth analysis of each of the books to provide further insight into the similarities and contrast in tones of the books. Eragon, the dark and ominously toned book of the trio, opens the epic tale of the boy on his journey to save his land from the clutches of the dark and evil king, Galbatorix. In the beginning of Book One, Eragon, the main protagonist's name is the same as the title, finds what looks like a sapphire stone to him while out on a hunting trip and because of his ignorance of what it true nature, he brought it home.
