Text messaging while driving is very common across the United States and causes many of automobile accidents. Over this past weekend my mom was driving on RT. 66, heading towards the highway to take me to work. While we are driving, she was concentrating on sending her friend a text message, which kept her from keeping her eyes on the road. She was looking down at her phone for to long and started merging to the other side of the road. When she glanced up from looking at her phone, she noticed she was on the wrong side of the road and hurried to swerve back into her lane. Her sending a two second text message could of ended our life instantly if another car was coming at the correct speed limit or even over the speed limit. Text messaging now is illegal all throughout the United States and in Maryland you can expect to pay a $500 fine just for texting behind the wheel. Less accidents and deaths would be avoided if people would take the time to pay attention to the road and be patient to send the text message after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
