Barbie: The Fade of Plastic Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Barbie, launched in 1959, was portrayed as the spitting image of the ideal woman with her blonde hair, blue eyes, and perfectly proportioned bust, waist, and hips. This idol casted in plastic became a role model for women, both young and old but underneath the facade of plastic laid a deeper meaning. In Mondo Barbie by Lucinda Ebersol and Richard Peabody, Forever Barbie by M.G. Lord, the 2001 movie Legally Blonde, the 2006 version of Barbie: Mermaidia, the article Barbie: "A Doll With Feminist Motives" by Shannon Berquist, and the wikipedia article Barbie, these collection of works intertwine together leading to a common theme that they all share. The image of Barbie changes with the trends of modernization, but Barbie is also a symbol for the ever changing roles of females in society. The short story collection, Mondo Barbie, contains an assortment of pieces ranging from poems to excerpts taken from novels.
